87th Academy Awards Nominations Predictions: November Update

The big news for this year’s Oscar campaign over the past week has been the buzz surrounding Interstellar’s official release on this upcoming Tuesday.  Early buzz suggested that this was a contender for the Best Picture Oscar, but reviews have revealed Interstellar to be a weaker contender than anticipated.  Interstellar currently stands at a 74% on Rotten Tomatoes and a very respectable 76 on Metacritic.  Assuming that stands and the film does well at the box office and with the Academy voter demographic, I think Interstellar can still be a big player with nominations.  However, we are most likely looking at a film with a similar reception to Christopher Nolan’s last film, Inception, with the Academy.  That means a Best Picture nominee that can rack up some wins in the technical categories but one without a Best Director nomination.
