66th Primetime Emmy Awards Nominations Predictions: Mid-March Update

Well in the weeks since my last update there have been a few major updates on the Emmy front.  First of all, Orange is the New Black will now be competing in the comedy categories instead of the drama categories (where it competed under for the SAG Awards and Golden Globes).  Orange is the New Black is now an instant threat to win in Comedy Series, Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, Directing for a Comedy Series and Writing for a Comedy Series.  However, I see it struggling to register in the Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series where Kate Mulgrew is the show’s strongest contender but plays such a dramatic character on the show.

It was also announced that Allison Janney will be competing in Lead Actress in a Comedy Series while Damian Lewis will remain in Lead Actor in a Drama Series.  Both remain threats for nominations, but the rather mute buzz around Mom and Lewis’ reduced role on Homeland will make it a challenge for both.
